| One Church - One Child, a Kansas City, Missouri 501-C3 non-profit organization, operates as a partnership between a spectrum of Kansas City area Churches united together with The Children's Division of Jackson County, a State of Missouri Division of Social Services agency, in an ongoing effort to promote awareness within our Churches and the greater community of the need for foster and adoptive homes for an estimated 1,000 foster children and 350 foster children awaiting a permanent adoptive family in Jackson County. The group is affiliated with the national One Church - One Child movement, founded by Father George Clements, a Chicago area Catholic Priest, and although we advocate for the adoption of all waiting children, the organization places a special emphasis on attempting to locate forever adoptive families for Jackson County's African American children who make up a disproportionate number of the children involved in foster care and who traditionally wait the longest time for a forever family. Some of our current and past efforts include sponsoring and training designated recruiters within member Churches, providing profile displays of some of the waiting children, hosting awareness displays at various events within the community, and providing program speaker resources to help make the needs of Our waiting children real to various audiences. Some of our member churches also sponsor special events, such a individual and multi-Church musicals, adoption fun carnivals, as well as sponsor foster youth for birthday and Christmas presents. In addition, we also sponsored a number of promotions to expand awareness of the Waiting Children, including billboard, yellow pages and newspaper advertising campaigns, as well as the Adopt KC Kids ribbon lapel pins. |
